Our second day at sea…still getting everyone trained on deploying equipment and collecting samples, but everything is progressing nicely. The only hitch was a malfunctioning winch we use to deploy the corer. The engineers got to work on it right away, and while they were doing their thing, we deployed the tow camera and did a CTD.
Since it’s Sunday, we had our weekly barbecue. This week, the deck department showed off their skills with slow-cooked pork, grilled chicken, and shrimp ceviche, among other dishes.
Soon after dinner, we finished our transit to the next core sampling station. The engineers had figured out what was wrong with the winch (computer problem) and fixed it, so we readied our equipment to collect some more samples. We deployed the corer just as the sun dropped below the horizon, and watched a gorgeous sunset.
